Golden Gel Mediums
Golden Gel Mediums provide artists with myriad options in texture, finish, and consistency. Their properties range from pourable to sculptable, with varying sheen and opacity. Gels can be thought of as pigmentless paints, since they are made of similar polymers as are the acrylic paints. They are made of acrylic polymers, which have been shown to have outstanding flexibility and chemical, water and ultraviolet radiation resistance. Soft Gel
Soft Gels give gentle texture to brush stokes. They can be used as collage adhesives. Their thickness helps keep collage papers from rippling and creates a stronger bond for papers and three dimensional objects. When mixed with a small amount of color, Soft Gels can be used as the basis for thick acrylic glazes and gel medium transfers.Learn more about transfer techniques.

Soft Gel (Gloss) can also be diluted with water and applied with a brush as an isolation coat between paintings and a final varnish.

Regular Gel
Regular Gels have the same consistency as Heavy Body colors. Since they are essentially Heavy Body paints without the pigment, they are ideal for extending your colors and altering transparency or sheen without changing the thickness of the paint. They can also be used for light texture work and thick glazing effects.

Heavy Gel
Heavy Gels are more viscous than Heavy Body colors. They hold moderate peaks and can be used to increase the thickness of Heavy Body Colors. They can also be used to create relief, or a three-dimensional effect, on a substrate.Learn about sgraffito effects with Heavy Gels

Extra Heavy Gel
Extra Heavy Gels are, along with High Solid Gels, the most viscous of Golden’s gels and can be used to create thicker textures. They can be used with faux finishing combs and palette knives for scraffito techniques. They hold dramatic peaks while drying translucent. They can also be used to create relief, or a three-dimensional effect, on a substrate.

High Solid Gel
High Solid Gels are the same viscosity as Extra Heavy Gels. Because they contain less water and more acrylic solids, they shrink less when drying than other gels. They hold firm, extremely high peaks, blend well with colors, and retain brush strokes. They make a major texture impact and when using the matte variety can mimic the look of wax.

Pumice Gels
Pumice Gels offer gritty textures with different particle sizes which dry to hard films. Pumice gels can be mixed with acrylic colors or be painted over once dry.

Fine Pumice Gel dries to a velvety surface with a warm gray color. It can be used as a ground for pastels, graphite, and paint sticks.Learn more about using Fine Pumice Gel as a ground.

Coarse Pumice Gel has a texture when dry similar to a rough concrete. It dries to a light gray color and is an excellent ground for dry brush techniques.

Extra Coarse Pumice Gel is similar to Coarse Pumice Gel in texture and color, but with larger particles.
