the problem is clear:
One third of all wood harvested in the U.S. is used for paper products - which then turns into over 100 million tons of waste each year.

making a difference one sheet at a time
At Green Paper Company, we love paper, but we don’t love what it can do to the environment. That’s why we have brought together experts from every aspect of paper manufacturing, printing, recycling, packaging and retail to create papers that are stylish and environmentally conscious.
The result is a collection of fine post-consumer recycled papers, card stock, and envelopes equal in tone and texture to any other premium paper.

what goes around comes around
Our entire collection of paper and envelopes is made with at least 30% post-consumer recycled fiber - and many with 100% post-consumer recycled fiber. The result is that fewer trees are used in the making of our products, less waste is created, and paper that had been previously tossed in the wastebasket is turned back into paper. environmentally friendly from production to packaging

what is post-consumer fiber?
Also called post consumer waste. Material collected from municipal and office recycling centers. It is the post consumer content that “closes the gap” in the manufacturing process and makes a true difference to the environment. The higher the post consumer content - the more earth friendly the paper is.
Every Green Paper Company product contains a minimum of 30% post consumer fiber and many of our colors contain 100% post-consumer fiber. We’re proud to admit it: Our products are a lot of garbage.

who knew green paper could be so white?
or pink...or blue...
If you think going green means that your customers will have to use dingy or speckled paper, think again. Green Paper Company helps you create a greener planet in 18 pure and perfect shades (including a gloriously clean white). Our stock is as smooth and polished as any other premium paper anywhere. Now the best of paper is also what’s best for the planet.

what is recycled paper?
Recycled paper is made from material collected from internal sources - paper manufacturers, printers and converters. While beneficial, it is the post-consumer recycled fiber content in paper that really matters. Every material we use, every action we take, is done with the environment in mind. From raw pulp to packaging, if it’s not environmentally friendly, we don’t use it. We buy papers solely from environmentally responsible U.S. paper mills. All of our proprietary colors are FSC certified, produced with hydro-electricity generated within the mills. For all printed materials, we use only 100% recycled paper printed with soy inks. We make certain that each step of our manufacturing process is streamlined and locally sourced to reduce waste and fuel usage as much as possible.

what can “virgin” paper do to a virgin forest?
“Virgin” paper is paper made directly from trees. The terminology may sound nice, but the truth is, paper has two sides. The Bad Side: Waste paper currently accounts for more than 40% of U.S. landfills. Paper production uses 11.5% of all energy consumed by U.S. industry. Decomposing paper produces significant quantities of methane gas – a greenhouse gas 20 times more damaging than carbon dioxide.

why choose post-consumer recycled papers?
The Good Side: Every 2 tons of recycled paper used eliminates 1.1 tons of waste paper. Recycled paper creation uses 64% less energy than non-recycled paper. Every 175 lbs. of recycled paper used saves seven trees - providing enough oxygen for one person for a year. In 2007, 53% of paper consumed in the U.S. was recovered for recycling. This represents a 76% increase over 1990. The more we support and buy recycled paper the more options we will have.

turn over a new leaf
Using paper made from post-consumer recycled fiber protects the environment in more ways than you might imagine: Every ton of 100% post-consumer recycled paper used saves 80 trees, which provide enough oxygen for 12 people, PLUS enough water for almost 1,000 five-minute showers, PLUS enough electricity to power a home for 6 weeks, PLUS 682 gallons of oil, PLUS solid and chemical pollution emissions equal to driving a compact car 26,640 miles.

look for the words “post-consumer fiber”
Also called “post consumer waste”, this is the only truly recycled paper - made from the very same paper you throw away. Non-post consumer waste (often just called “recycled”) is simply paper made from the waste generated by the paper manufacturing process itself.

what is FSC certified?
The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization that certifies sustainable forest management and manufacturing chain of custody. While there are many similar organizations, FSC is the most highly respected and considered the most credible. Its label allows consumers worldwide to recognize products that support responsible forest management.
