Leap Chairs The Leap® Chair is history's first truly 'interactive seating device'. It's more of a chair you 'put on' than 'sit in', as it adapts not only to your body type, body shape and body positioning; but also your 'spineprint'. Yes, 'spineprint'! You see, like a unique set of fingerprints, everyone has a unique 'spineprint' or "spinal configuration". But unlike finger prints which do not change, your spineprint changes constantly throughout each day and throughout your entire life. The Leap® Chair—and only the Leap® Chair—conforms itself to all the multiple requirements you demand from healthy seating. Only the Leap® Chair allows you to work with nature, not against it! Care & MaintenanceCare of Steelcase Seating Products Basic maintenance should be done on your chair's upholstery, finishes, controls, base, and other moving parts once a year - and more frequently if the chair is subjected to heavy use. Cleaning painted, plastic, and vinyl and chrome surfaces Clean frequently. Apply household cleaner (such as Fantastik® or 409®) and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. For more stubborn chrome marks, use a non-abrasive chrome cleaner. On high-gloss, smooth plastic finishes (such as the Player™ chair frame), use a light rubbing compound (such as Turtlewax® rubbing compound) to polish minor surface marks. Cleaning wood finishes Steelcase wood products are protected by a stain-resisting finish. For normal cleaning, wipe surface with a soft, damp (not wet) cloth. Maintaining upholstery Use a vacuum cleaner for regular cleaning. Do not steam clean. Periodic professional dry cleaning is recommended. To remove excess stains or heavy soil on upholstery Soak up excess stain with a cloth. Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. For most water-borne stains (coffee, fruit juice, washable ink), use an upholstery cleaning solution (such as BISSELL Upholstery Shampoo® or Guardsman Fabri-Kleen®) and follow package directions. For oil-borne stains, use a dry-cleaning solution at room temperature (never hot) and allow solution to work into stain. Using quick, light strokes, brush stain with a soft bristle brush. Work from outside toward the center to prevent rings. Avoid vigorous rubbing which may damage the nap or force the stain more deeply into the material. Soak up remaining dry-cleaning solution and sponge the fabric with cool water. Allow fabric to dry completely, then vacuum thoroughly. If stain is still evident, repeat procedure. Several light applications of cleaning solution are more effective/less damaging than one heavy application. Maintaining leather upholstery Dust occassionally with a clean, dry cloth. Most stains can be removed by applying a mild soap to a damp cloth, working up thin suds, then rubbing it gently over the stain. Rinse with a clean damp cloth then wipe dry. Never use furniture polishes, oils, varnishes or ammonia on leather. Some cleaning products may cause discoloration and should be tested in an inconspicuous area before using. Casters Caster pintles should be lubricated once or twice a year. Cleaning chair glides When chairs with glides are used, the glides should be cleaned of dirt and waxed regularly to avoid build-up. Apply household cleaner and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. Lubrication of pneumatic column Turn chair over, remove retaining clip, lift base straight up and off the column. Wipe off the old grease and brush or wipe on a thin layer of high-quality, multi-purpose grease. (Do not use spray lubricant as this can run down and stain the floor.) For best performance, lubricate periodically. Changeable components The upholstery cushions, arm caps, casters and optional pneumatic cylinder are field replaceable on your chair. Please see your Steelcase dealer for instructions. Seat height fine tuning (Drive chair only) If seat height lowers or raises unintentionally, loosen bright zinc screw located under seat ( ½ turn at a time) until seat height operates as desired. Notice The manufacturer certifies that this article of furniture meets the requirements of the BIFMA First Generation Voluntary Upholstery Flammability Standard for Business and Institutional Markets. Care should be exercised near open flame or burning, smoking materials. Steelcase chair products are covered by existing and/or pending U.S. patents. It was also designed with the planet's well-being in mind. Working with McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), we re-examined the materials and processes used to create our top selling chair. MBDC analyzed all materials in the Leap chair for their impact on human and environmental health according to their strict protocols, as well as identifying any materials that didn't meet their scrutiny. The Leap chair contains no PVCs, CFCs, solvents, chrome, benzene, lead or mercury. Through steps we've taken to evaluate and improve the Leap chair's environmental performance, Leap has received Silver Cradle to Cradle™ Product Certification from MBDC. A few more environmental facts about Leap: - The Leap chair is up to 98% recyclable by weight, depending on the options selected, and made of up to 30% recycled content.
- Leap manufacturing uses powder-coated paints, water-based adhesives and VOC-free manufacturing processes.
- The cushioning in the back upholstery is made from 50% post-consumer PET (for example, recycled plastic soda and water bottles) and is 100% recyclable.
- To reduce packaging waste, the Leap chair is blanket wrapped (not boxed) for domestic shipment. And throughout the manufacturing process, our suppliers use reusable parts containers to further reduce waste.
- Through implementing leaner manufacturing processes, we were able to reduce the amount of manufacturing space used to produce Leap by 74%, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of energy used in production.
- The Leap chair is designed for a long life. To ensure that happens, back cushions, seat assembly, arms, and lumbar support can be added, changed, or replaced at any time.
- Leap is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified.
FeaturesErgonomics The Leap chair was developed based on the finding of four years of research, 27 scientists, 11 studies and 732 test participants. Out of this research came important discoveries about how people sit, leading to advanced seating technology. The Leap chair's back moves as your back moves. Its arms move as your arms move. Its seat moves as your seat moves. It's the first chair that actually changes shape to mimic and support the movement of your spine. Ergonomic features of the Leap chair include: a. LiveBack® The Leap chair's back changes shape to support the entire spine. This can reduce the chance of lower back sag and a hunched posture, which weakens disc walls, stresses back ligaments and causes deterioration of the spine. b. Thermal Comfort Thanks to slats in both its back and seat, and the special foam it uses, the Leap chair offers excellent "breathability". It effectively controls a balance of heat and moisture so you stay comfortable. c. Adjustable Seat Depth People don't fit neatly into average body sizes. Leg and torso lengths can vary independent of a person's overall height. Adjustable seat depth accommodates different body shapes for long-term comfort. d. Lower Back Firmness Lower back firmness control enables you to set a constant amount of firmness to help maintain your lower spine's natural curve. e. Height, Depth, Width, and Pivot Arms Arms telescope in and out, move forward and back, pivot and adjust up and down so you can find a natural position that comfortably supports the wrists, forearms, shoulders and neck. f. Natural Glide System™ As you recline, the seat glides forward so you can recline without leaving your Vision and Reach Zone, so you stay oriented to your work. This encourages more varied postures so there's less static load on the spine. g. Flexible Seat Edge When you recline or lean forward, the seat edge flexes to relieve pressure on the back of the legs. h. Upper Back Force Upper back force control enables you to set the amount of "push back" that you desire as you recline, regardless of body size. So you'll receive just the right amount of recline support. |
